Reasons To Board Your Pet

March 15, 2025

Are you going on vacation soon? Perhaps you’re leaving town for a business trip, or are going to be unavailable for other reasons. You’ll need to figure out what to do with your canine companion. While you may find various options for things like petsitters and dog walkers, taking Fido to your La Porte, TX pet hotel is by far the best choice. Here are a few reasons why:

Socialization

Socialization is crucial to your pet’s development. This entails exposing your furry buddy to new places, faces, and experiences. For instance, if you have a puppy, you could take little Fido to a park, have friends and family members come over to visit, or bring him to meet your brother’s dog. These things help your pooch form an open mind about the world, and basically help him learn to get into a mindset of accepting new places and faces and just seeing things in a positive light. Other animals also need socialization, though you would focus more on handling, petting, and playing with them.

This must be done within a certain time frame, while your furry pal is still quite young. If you wait too long, your pet will already have made up his mind about the world. You may be surprised at how big a difference this can make to a pet’s mentality! For instance, dogs that have not been properly socialized are much more likely to develop behavioral issues as adults.

Boarding can help with socialization in a few ways. For one thing, little Fido will get to meet new friends, both two- and four-legged. He’ll also experience a new environment. Doggy daycare can also be great, as puppies learn a lot about the do’s and don’ts of being a Good Boy by interaction with other dogs.

Physical Exercise

Our canine pals all need regular exercise to stay healthy, just as humans do. While dogs do have unique needs here. Some will be fine with just a few daily walks. Others need lots of activity. Some need as much as an hour of vigorous exercise each day! When boarding, you can be very specific when deciding how much activity Fido should get, and what type.

Certified Care

Many people take up petsitting or dogwalking as side work. That makes sense, and it can be a good part-time gig for animal lovers. However, a love of animals doesn’t automatically translate into professional knowledge, especially when it comes to the nuances of Fido’s care and behavior. When it comes to education and experience, there’s a huge difference between someone who can take your dog around the block and fill his dish and someone who can spot signs of illness, anxiety, or aggression early on. That’s not to dismiss dog walkers, just to note that those roles are really geared at quick mid-day potty breaks, rather than full time care.

Safety

One of the top concerns when making arrangements for someone to care for your pet is simple safety. Fido will be staying in a contained, controlled environment that has been specifically designed for his comfort and safety. Kennels offer much more security than a petsitter or dogwalker. Many have features such as high fences, double doors, or cameras. Keep in mind that even if your own home is fairly safe, there’s always a chance that Fido could get away from a sitter or walker. If so, they would likely have a much harder time getting him back than you would.

You also can’t underestimate the extra safety that comes with simply having your pooch monitored. Dogs are susceptible to illness and injury, just like people. You don’t have to worry about you or your sitter coming home to find your pet sick or injured.

Personalized Attention

Our canine pals are all unique individuals, and their care needs should reflect that. One pooch may need to be given medication at specific times, while another may need daily playtime with his pals. Kennels are able to accommodate requests for the type of special care or attention your furry bestie needs.

Maintain Routine

Pets always feel most comfortable when they are kept on a fairly steady routine for things like walks, meals, playtime, and, of course, bedtime. That doesn’t mean Fido isn’t open to adventure: he just tends to feel safest with some consistency. Kennels offer a stable routine that gives structure to pets’ days.

Playtime With Pals

Many of our four-legged friends are very sociable. Keep in mind that dogs are more or less geared to function as part of a pack. Fido often gets quite sad and lonely when he’s left by himself. This is one of the downsides of hiring a walker or sitter. Unless they are going to stay over at your place, your pet will be spending long amounts of time alone. That can cause him to feel quite unsettled, lonely, depressed, and frightened. These things in turn increase the likelihood of your pooch getting into mischief by doing things like digging or chewing inappropriately, which can be quite dangerous.

Many kennels offer options for safe, supervised playtime with other pooches. Fido may be delighted to make new friends!

Comfortable Environment

Today’s kennel is far more than a bare bones crate. Kennels are designed specifically for pets’ comfort and safety. That’s more than you can say for the average house! This actually tracks with changes and developments that have taken root in the world of boarding kennels over the past few decades. We’ve learned a lot more about pets’ emotional needs, and have a greater understanding of how important things like play, stimulation, and enrichment are. We want our furry wards to see our facility as a luxury hotel, not a jail! That’s why we offer things like climate control, comfy beds, luxury condos, and fenced-in play areas with artificial turf.

Peace Of Mind

Any decent kennel will take all and any steps they can to keep their furry wards happy, healthy, and safe. That comes into play not just with policies and procedures, but even in the way our facility is designed. For instance, we have glass doors on some of our kennels. All of these details greatly reduce not only the risk of pets being injured. They also simply help ensure that pets have the best time possible while they are here. Your pup will relax, hang out with his buddies, play, or even watch TV.

You’ll also be able to rest assured, knowing that your pet is in trained and capable hands. That sense of responsibility also comes down into day-to-day practices. We monitor pets’ food and medicine, keep a close eye on doggy play dates, and just keep our charges on a steady routine. These things promote happiness and safety, and reduce stress, anxiety, and conflict. At the end of the day, who doesn’t want to stay at a luxury spa?
